Service Writer

 

Location: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

 

Report to: General Manager

 

Scope:

The Service Writer is a hands-on role where you will lead a small team in a busy service department. You will help organize the day, support the technicians, and make sure customers are taken care of. You will be part of a family-owned Saskatchewan company that values hard work, clear communication, and getting the job done right. 

 

Objective:

As the Service Writer, you will be the go-to person to keep the shop running smoothly. You will manage the schedule, keep customers informed about their equipment, and work with the rest of the team to keep things moving. You will also make sure the paperwork, parts orders, and warranty claims are handled properly. In this role, you will be organized, think on your feet, and not afraid to pitch in when needed.


Responsibilities:

·      Lead and support a small, dedicated service team, fostering a collaborative and respectful work environment.

·      Manage the day-to-day flow of the service department, including scheduling, work orders, and technician assignments.

·      Act as the main point of contact for customers, from intake to follow-up, ensuring customers feel informed and supported throughout the process.

·      Coordinate with parts, administration, and leadership teams to ensure timelines and expectations are met.

·      Oversee warranty submissions and ensure accurate, timely documentation of all service-related work.

·      Troubleshoot delays or issues in service delivery and find solutions.

·      Ensure service standards and internal processes are followed.

·      Support ongoing training within the team.

·      Contribute to a culture of accountability, care, and continuous improvement within the department.

·      Identify opportunities to streamline workflows or enhance overall customer experience.

 

Requirements:

·      Experience in service writing, technician support, or a customer-facing role.

·      Familiarity with small engines, lawn and garden equipment, or similar mechanical environments.

·      Comfortable using basic computer systems and keeping digital records organized.

·      Strong communication skills that are clear, respectful, and responsive.

 

·      Able to stay focused and organized in a fast-paced setting.

·      A calm and steady approach to problem solving and decision making.

·      Confident working with both internal teams and external customers.

·      Willingness to learn, ask questions, and grow in the role.

·      Experience in a dealership or parts department would be an asset.
