Reports to: VP, Product, Marketing & Corporate Strategy

 

Objective and Scope

The Director, Product leads GMS's Product function across individual health, travel and group business. The role provides strategic direction, innovation and people leadership to strengthen product performance, profitability and growth, improve team productivity and support GMS's next stage of advancement. With particular focus on the flagship individual health business, the Director will work across the organization to identify growth opportunities, shape new products and partnerships, and guide product design, development and lifecycle management.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead and provide strategic direction to the Product team across individual health, travel and group business.

• Provide focused strategic support to GMS's flagship individual health product while guiding established leaders in travel and group benefits.

• Develop and advance product strategies that support business growth, customer needs and organizational priorities.

• Identify and evaluate new product, partnership and distribution opportunities that can expand GMS's offering and reach.

• Bring new ideas and innovation to the Product function while building on the foundation established through GMS's transformation.

• Improve team productivity and support strong product performance as the business scales.

• Collaborate closely with Sales, Marketing, Customer Service, Technology and other internal partners to align product priorities and execution.

• Build strong relationships across the organization and influence enterprise-wide decisions related to products and growth.

• Lead, support and develop an established team, creating clarity, accountability and opportunities for people to perform at their best.

• Contribute as a broader business leader with the potential to take on increased enterprise leadership responsibility over time.

• Own product lifecycle management from ideation and business case development through launch, enhancement and retirement, with appropriate governance and oversight.

• Use customer insights, broker feedback, claims experience and market intelligence to inform product design, features, coverage structures and value propositions.

• Monitor portfolio performance, including profitability, growth, utilization, claims trends, customer experience and competitive positioning, and use insights to guide decisions.

• Optimize portfolio results through pricing, benefit and product strategies that balance customer value, market competitiveness and profitability.

• Review and advance automation within the Product function, including opportunities to improve straight-through processing and operational efficiency.

 

REQUIREMENTS

Experience and Education

• Genuine Product experience with the ability to distinguish and lead Product strategy beyond primarily Marketing or Sales responsibilities.

• Strong business acumen and the ability to understand products, customers, financial drivers and growth opportunities.

• Demonstrated people leadership.

• Bachelor's degree is preferred; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.

• Experience in insurance, health, travel or group benefits is considered an asset; transferable industry experience is welcomed.

• Strong understanding of business intelligence, customer research and product development.

• Experience with forecasting and competitive analysis.
